SAMANTHA HOWLAND, Chief People Officer at Gannett
About Samantha:
Samantha Howland leads the global HR function, as Chief People Officer for Gannett, an audience-led, digitally focused, diversified media company that publishes USA TODAY, along with hundreds of local media outlets across the United States, and over 150 news brands in the United Kingdom. In her role, she drives a values-based Employee Experience and leads Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Talent Development, Inclusion, Diversity & Equity, Labor Relations and HR Business Partnerships.
Samantha expertise includes business leadership, strategic planning, and talent development, with extensive experience with organizations in transformation. She has demonstrated continued success in developing talent, HR programs and people experiences with a pragmatic, collaborative communication style. In aligning organizational plans, operating models and people programs, Samantha has helped companies meet strategic business needs while building culture that drives measurable performance results.
Prior to joining Gannett, Samantha served as Chief People Officer of Mobiquity, a digital engagement agency. She also previously served as Senior Managing Partner and Talent Practice Executive for Decision Strategies International. She graduated from Vassar College and holds an M.S. in Organizational Dynamics from University of Pennsylvania.

About Adriana:
From a clinical psychologist to a global talent executive, Adriana has over 25 years of experience in highly complex leadership roles in fast-growing global companies. Recognized as an innovative, high-performing business leader with the ability to architect, execute, and drive business growth, including organizational and cultural change. Passionate about changing how candidates and employees experience HR and building people-centric talent programs with state-of-the-art technology. Having been involved in over 10 M&A deals throughout her career as well as several global business expansions, Adriana has deep expertise in supporting companies interested in expanding their international footprint.
As Chief People Officer at Snyk (Cybersecurity) and Pegasystems (Digital Transformation), Adriana was responsible for implementing talent strategies that enabled the company’s business vision to fruition. She played a pivotal role in devising and executing talent efforts to attract, develop, engage, and retain great talent, focusing on leadership development and diversity and inclusion.
Before these roles, Adriana was Chief Evangelist Officer and Chief People Officer at PeopleDoc, an HR software provider, where she was responsible for building a customer advocacy-focused sales enablement team and a customer consulting practice, in addition to leading the global people team. Previously, she held several roles at Biogen (Biotech) in Switzerland and the US, including the Vice President of HR Business Partnering and Vice President of People Services. Prior to this, she worked for over ten years at Parexel (Clinical Research Services) in Europe, where she held several HR roles.
Over her career, Adriana has served on the boards of private (Empirical Hire and Scout Exchange) and non-profit (Girls in Tech) companies. She was an active member of the compensation committee and was highly involved in the governance & nomination committee.
Adriana was born in Brazil and is fluent in English, Portuguese, and German. She holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management, an M.A. in Organizational Leadership from Fielding, an M.A in Adult Educational Psychology & Educational Psychology from Ludwig-Maximillian’s Universität München, and a Clinical Psychology MA degree from Pontificia Universidade Catolica in Rio de Janeiro which included a 2-year exchange program with UCLA. She is currently pursuing her PhD and is a lecturer at MIT.
